While finishing our drinks at the very busy canteen, Willa and I were joined by two wacky guys from the Engineering department- Sir James and Sir Tom. Both are part-time teachers at well-known universities in Manila and eager beavers in learning a foreign language. Japanese for James and Mandarin for Tom.
Since Willa knows Fookien and Mandarin, Sir Tom throws a few terms and checking if he got the meaning and pronunciation right.
"Speaking of pronunciation," he says. "We have in our University an Engineering professor who cant pronounce the word “circuit. The kids are laughing whenever he says SIR-KUWIT.
Then Sir James goes. “Sir-kuwit? Okay lang yun. Sa amin nga, ang basa sa electricity ay ELEK-TRI-KI-TY!” At this point I think I’m going to faint. Ha-ha-ha.
